Bida for Repair, to Armerla Will Be
Opened March 27.
Captain P. J. Werllch. United State,
lighthouse inspector of this district.
. has issued specifications inviting bids
for repair, to tha lighthouse tender
Armerla. - The bids are ta be opened on
March 87 at tha inspector's office In the
custom house building.
The Armerla will ba given a general
overhauling a. t. now being done on
the tender Heather at Seattle. The
Heather will be lifted on the drydock
at Quartermaster harbor tomorrow
for painting and much work has already
been dona on the Interior of the crat-

The steam schooner Johan Poulsen
left down last night with 600,000 feet
of lumber bound for San Francisco.
She will take on a small shipment at
Knappton.
The government dredge Wallowa has
been laid up at Rlparla for repairs.

ence greeted W. S. U'ren last night at
the Grand Opera house. Conspicuous
only by their ab.ence were the anti
Statement No. 1 leaders. They had
been challenged to a Joint debate but
failed utterly to appear.
Mr. U'Ren made sharp hits at the
machlns leaders. Including the names
of Senator Kay, C. B. Moores, Jack Mat
thew, and Harvey W. Scott, and created
much eentlment In favor of the direct
election of senators by vote of the peo
ple. '
There wa. a large attendance of Re
publicans, and especially young men and
college students.
A. C. Llbby, a popular young Republi
can from Jeffer.on precinct, filed his
petition today a. a Statement No. 1
man. He la the fourth Republican to
file for representative a. a Statement
No. 1 man, and when one more file,
there will be a full ticket In the field.
Indication, are that the Statement
No. l men will be nominated and
elected. ,
O. L. Hatteberg, a Statement No. 1
man, yesterday filed his petition for
nomination by the Republican, a. rep
resentative for Marion county.
C. M. Crittenden, who .tate. In hi.

tion of rebate, to Los Angeles, where
official, of tha Santa Fe railroad will

to answer to similar charges.
In spite of the protest, of Attorney
Dunne, who repre.ented the Southern
Pacific at the rebate hearing In San
Francisco the commission yesterday
halted the Investigation against that
road temporarily to ailow Attorney
General Webb time to whip his evidence
against the Santa Fe railroad Into
