The year of 1907 was a good and profitable one in the real estate busi
, ness. Transactions were rapid, numerous and always cm a rising market
The temporary depression in the business world did not reverse this move
ment of prices. This is especially true of farm lands. This year has shown
a steady advance from the record of last year in our office. The demand
for farm lands is especially active with us. Tjie month of February ex
ceeded our business for the same month last year. We made many trans
fers, and of these the larger share were for large and valuable tracts. We
have largely increased our force, and still the business keeps us 'busy.
March is improving on February, and April and May promise to be the
best months of the year.
We base this prediction on our correspondence, which is full of the most
encouraging inquiries from large and successful farmers in the eastern
states. Many f these letters are in behalf of farmers' sons looking for
larger opportunities than can be found in the older states.
The money-saving workingmen of the east, who have made their stake
and are looking for investments which shall combine their home with their
self-employment, are also largely represented". Our experience with this
sort of correspondence, and our knowledge of the opportunities offered in
Oregon and Washington, make this anticipation of even larger things in
real estate and especially in farm properties a practical certainty.
This activity in the market has its explanation in three things, so far
as bur work is concerned: (1) The east no longer can be kept in ignorance
lof the great advantages offered in the northwest coast country, and no single
factor has contributed more to this result than the work of lhe Oregon
Daily Journal. This is proven by every mail. (2) The business depression
in the east ha emphasized the advantages . of the "west, which has nolj o
seriously suffered: and li) we have mad a specialty not only of city prop
erty, but of the farm 'laridi which thesp newcomers have been especially
