As the. result of a recent ruling of !
the Interstate commerce commission.
the O. R. & N. will In all probability
discontinue Its sa'le of through tickets
from Tacoma to the east via Portland.
Heretofore this has been done, the O.
R. & N. absorbing the local rote of
$4.35. This will mean the discontin
uance of attendee on Puget sound.
The ruling Is said to have come about
in response to the new tariffs of the
Union Pacific, Milwaukee and other
roads selling through tickets to Port
land only, but Ita exact provlelpns are
still unknown to O. R. & N. officials
here. They expect to get the desired
detailed Information soon, when it will
be definitely settled whether pr not to
withdraw the agents in Tacoma. It Is,
however, said here that there Is a ques
tion whether the new order will affect
westbound traffic, which Is .the bigger
slice of the transcontinental buslneaa.
To a certain extent the new order
means that the O. R. a N. Is cut off
iruiu psanenirer Dullness Deiween rugetil
ouna ana me east via Portland until
me proposed Marnman branch between
thla city and Tacoma materialises.
In the past the rate from Tacoma to
points east has been the same over tha
northern lines and the Harrlman lines
via Portland, although no traffic ar
rangement has existed between the Hill
lines and the O. R. & N. To enable the
Harrlman line to quote a through rate
equal 10 inose or the mu lines. It sim
ply absorbed the local rate between
rorxiana ana Tacoma, wl
has now been dented them
state commerce commission.
'I he new order will not affect the
traffic arrangements between the Hill
lines and the Southern Pacific com
