FRATERNAL MEETING
The fraternal meeting held by central
W. C. T. U. at room 606 Goodnough
building Wednesday afternoon was well
attended. Miss McCorkle of the Y. W.
C. A. spoke of the association's work
among the 10.000 business women of
Portland and what she called the hous
ing problem, how to find suitable homes
for all. She spoke of the need of a
woman to reach the girls employed In
the factories. She referred to the W.
C. T; U. as ths organization which had
first commenced the work at the depot,
snd for serving meals, at the noon rest
years ago. Mrs. Margaret Herren rep
resented the Pegree ofHonor, showing
that, poverty is the mother of crime,
and that this organization hns done
much for the help of the working peo
ple In their homes, through the dun
shine club and other ways.
Mrs. E. 8. Muckley represented the
Christian Church Missionary society,
showing that the missionaries encoun
tered no foe so bard to conquer as ths
liquor traffic Mrs. Foulkes repre
sented the Presbyterian Missionary so
ciety, bringing greetings and good
wishes. Dr. Wilson being unable to be
present to represent the Anti-Saloon
league sent a response, emphasizing
their Indebtedness to the W. C. T. U.

have proved valuable in farming for

The train left Pullman, Washington,
this morning, and will visit a large
number of towns In eastern Washington
during the next two days. R. B. Minor,

Murray, general passenger agent of the
road, are In charge. They are accom
panied by K. E. Elliott, professor of ag
riculture at Pullman college; Oeorge
