Mrs. Charles Wllmont of 80 Grand
avenue, attempted to commit suicide by
taking laudanum about 1:80 yesterday
Rfternoon in the presence of her hus
band, with whom she had quarreled,
and her younger brother and sister, who
were In the room at the time. The at
tempt was not successful. Doctors were
Immediately summoned and the un
fortunate woman was taken to the Good
Samaritan hospital. Although In a criti
cal condition she is expected to recover.

the couple and none of the witnesses
disputed the fact that the knot was
firmly and .securely tied for so lng a
time as the happy couple could live.

Mrs. Peter Taylor, a pioneer' of 185
and mother of Douglas W. Taylor, the
city engineer, Is very ill at her home,
227 Caruthers street. Mrs. Taylor Is
84 years of age and little hope for her
ultimate recovery is held out bv the

of Portland's oldest .residents, she and
her husband having come to tha Rose
City many years ago.
Peter .Taylor came to Oregon across
the plains in 1862 and was followed two
years later by Mrs. Taylor, who came
by way of the Isthmus of Panama. They
have been married SO years. Mr. Taylor
was associated with H. L. Corbett in
the Willamette Iron A Bteet Works for
a great number of years and was an
