Y. 31. C. A.- Juniors Will
Have a Chance to Show
All-Eound Skill. ;
Larry .Larimore, the genial physical
director of the T. M. C. A. boys' depart
ment, la planning on holding a Big. Jun
ior pentathlon meet Monday, March 9.
Thla meet waa orlarlnallly to have been
held Friday, but the big game with the
Muscatine ha caused thia event to be
postponed a few days.
Mr, Larimore has been spending a lot
of time getting his boys In training
trim for the contest and he has every
hope that some of the previous Junior
etandlng records will be broken. '
Of a necessity the races are mainly
against time, and however fast a runner
may be he can never catch' up with hie
invisible opponent To avoid monotony
an endeavor will be made to ran ' one
cqntestant against another in the dis
tance runs, while the dashes will prob
ably be run In heats. Although the pro
gram has not yet been definitely de
cided the following events will take
i wenty-yara aaan.
Standing broad Jump.
Two hundred-yard run.
Dips on the parallel bars.
Running high dive.
In the races one and three fifths sec
onds are allowed or the circular track.
The percentage on the races are worked
out on the basis of Bpaldlngs' Athletic
guide, which enables the Judge to com
paratively place the positions of the'
men. For prises there i will be hand-,
some medals of gold, silver and .bronse
according to the points each contestant
earns, wo cnarge win oe maae lor ad
mission, as it Is felt that this is one
of the occasions on which, the boys are
entitled to bring" their friends.
WEST PORTLAND HAS
SOME SPEEDY. TOSSEES
In Archie Parrott.
Andy
Anderson,
West Portland
-will have four of the best men in the
Tri-City league. Not only are they fast
men but they are thinkers and know the
frame ell the way through. Archie
'arrott Is the oldest - player of tjie
bunch. He has been playing, baseball in
F-ortland for the-last 10 years and has
always been a-star. 11
Andy Anderson .rightfully belongs to
Aberdeen, but as he. has entered Into
a business venture which demands his
entire attention, he has decided to give
up professional - baseball and devote all
Ills time to his business.
Joe Fay, too, has been playing base
ball here for quite a while and last
year played a number of games for the
Portland Bcavera at shortstop. His
stick work has always i been a little
light for the Coast league but in the
minor games he Is a star hitter. Joe
played a good game at -short for Ta
coma in the Northwest league in 1903
but the next year gave up professional
baseball and played tn Portland. Joe
1 one of the best little fielders in this
part of the country and with a little
more success with .the willow would be
a star in big company.
Northrup. the outfielder, - signed with
the west side team, belongs to Spokane,
but la not satisfied with his chances
there and has decided to. cast his lot
with the Trl-City league. He is one of
the fastest outfielders in the league and
is said to be a fine sticker.
