Henry. Ladtl Corbett at the Harvard
club in New Tork the past week on the
announcement of his engagement Miss
Gertrude Hoyi, his fiancee. Is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Reese
Hoyt of New York and is prominent In
society circles. The date for the wed
ding, has not yet been announced but
there is a great deal of Interest here

Miss Hoyt visited in Portland last

The wedding of Miss Grace Eliot and
Richard Gordon Seott Friday evening
at the First Unitarian church, was a
prominent affair. .There were no
cards but a large ' number of friends
attended. Rev. William G. Eliot, pastor
of the church, read the ceremony, and
Dr. T. U Eliot. the bride s rattier,
pronounced the benediction. - -The
church had been beautifully dec
orated by the young people with daffo
dils, ferns, pussy willows . and Oregon

A prominent wedding, of out-of-town
people was celebrated Thursday evening
at Trinity chapel, when Miss Eva D.
Froome and James Roy Raley were
married. The bride has been a ppuular
merabet of Pendleton society for sev
eral years and Mr. Raley Is the son
of Colonel James J. Raley of Pendle
ton, one of the best known men of
eastern Oregon. The bridegroom Is a
young lawyer, a graduate of the George
Washington Ifnlverslty of Haw at WasTi
fngton, D. C, and a member tne Delta
Tau Delta fraternity.
Dr. A. A. Morrison read the service.
Miss Edna Raley, the bridegroom's sis
ter, was the maid of honor and John -A.
Lee, his classmate, was the best man.
R. A. Watson, a family friend, gave
the bride away In the absence of her
father and brother. . The bride was
gowned In white messatlne and lace,
wore a veil and carried a shower bou
quet of Bride roses and lilies of the
valley. The bridesmaid wore' blue shad
ow chiffon with a picture hat to match,
and carried pink rosebuds.

, A water faucet left open all night
caused a flood on both floors and the
basement of McAUen St : McDonnell's
store at Third and Morrison - streets,
damaglnjr valuable laceS, velvets, cloaks,
suits and Imported goods. The faucet
was left running in the of flee of Louise
Anderson, a' dentist who Occupies a room
on the third floor of the-building.
The water soaked; through the 'floor
of the dentist's office, dfipped ' down
onto the feminine finery, went through;
the second floor, soaked through still
more finery, and finally "went through
Into the basement - where - it - formed -a
pool -on the - cement floor. The- water
was discovered this morning by the policeman-
on the beat It was , at first
believed that aw pipe had broken, but a
search disclosed the open faucet in the
office of. Dr.- .'Anderson. . The janitor
was called and he shut the water off,
but -the floors and ceilings had been
soaked so thoroughly that the ' water
continued to drip for hours. , .

ing to estimate the damage -done the
stock, which he said was partially, cov
