year. The total value of this month's
permits Is about SS00.000. which Is

February. 1907, when tha building boom

Among the lartre brick structure.
which were begun last fall and are now
nearing completion, Is the Henry-Mal-lory
building;, covering half of the block
between First, Front. Columbia and Jef
ferson streets. The building is to be
occupiea partly as terminal station by
the Salem electric line. At either end
of the half block stands a one-story
brick structure, connected with a metal-
roored structure, divided into booths,
which will be rented for various kinds
of small shops. It is reported that the
remainder of this block is to be im
proved with a building similar to the
one put up for Messrs. Henry and Mal-
Out at University Park.
F. M. Pliter is having plans- prepared
for a two-story frame building at Uni
versity Park. The first floor will be
occupied by five stores, with plate glass
ironis. ine second story will De utn
lzed for lodge room 8 and offices.
Architects Goodrich & Goodrich have
completed tha plans for a three-story
brick building- for the Home Telephone
company, to De erected at Vancouver.

Contractor John Almeter has Just
completed a modern, four-series flat on
Savier street, between East Twenty
eighth and East Twenty-ninth streeta
Almeter has begun the erection of a
four-series flat on Jackson, between
Fiftn and Sixth streets, for Architect
Jacobberger. The building adtolns a
flat Owned by Mr. Jacobberger, of which
it will be a duplicate, and will cost
about $7,000. i

Dr. McCormack has begun the erec
tion of a modern two-story frame dwell
ing in Walnut Park. The house will
cost about $4,000. Architect Ernest
Kroner prepared the plans.
Mr. Kroner has completed the plans
and, will soon let the contract for a
seven-room dwelling for Henry Ourr.

Salmon, between East Nineteenth and
East Twentieth streets. He has also
let the construction contract for 8. J.
Raffety's dwelling, to be erected at the
corner of Union avenue and Pearl street.
Mrs. Loverldge and associates have
begun the construction of a four-series
flat at the northwest corner of Grand
avenue and Pacific street. The build
ing when completed will represent an

A four-series fiat is under construc
tion on Eugene street, between Union
and Rodney avenues, for 1. Harris. The
building was designed by Goodrich &
Goodr oh and will cost about Xb.hUO.
W. F. Sargent of Pan Francisco re
cently purchased a lot at Rose City
Park, on which he will begin the erec
tion of a $3,500 home about May 1. The
building will be completed by July 1,
when Mr. Sargent will bring his family
here and make his permanent home in
this city.
Architect W. L. Morgan is getting up
plans for a handsome residence for
Miss Anne flledner, to bo erected on
Twenty-first street, between Johnson
and Kearney streets. The building will
be thoroughly modern end will contain
a large room, to be utilized as a con
servatory of music. The building will
cost about $6,000.
Permits were taken out Wednesday of
this week for 24 dwellings, to cost be
tween $1,000 and $6,000 each. Among
those taking out permits on that date
was B. C. Selberg, who will put up four
dwellings on Going street, between Wil
liams and Vancouver avenues, and J. C.
Haseltlne, who will put up a two-story
frame flat on Stout street, between Main
and Salmon, which will cost $5,004).

for two two-story frame cottages on
Mississippi avenue, between Beech and
Fremont streets, cost of buildings $2,-

Herman Cake has begun the erection
of a two-story brick store building on
Union avenue, between Kast Oak and

George Rae, vice-president of the In-
man-Poulsen Lumber company, is pre
paring to erect three modern apartment-houses
at the northwest corner
of Sixteenth and Kearney streets. Each
building will contain four nve-room
apartments, and will cost about $8,000.
The buildings will be thoroughly mod
ern and up to date. They will rest on
full concrete basements, subdivided so
that each apartment will have a sepa
rate basement and furnace.
The three structures will cover the
quarter block, 100 by 100 feet, and will
represent an investment. Including the
site, of about $40,000.
Memorial for St. Gaudens.

lan. Will H. Low, the artist, and other

cises arranged in memory of Augustus
St. Oaudens, the sculptor, who died
recently. Next week an exhibition of
the works of St. Gaudens will open
n the Metropolitan Museum of Art
and will continue for six weeks.

today as compared with those of a year
ago, say they ara not by any means
on the same footing. A year ago, they
contond, yellow fir logs of the highest
order brought $13 per thousand feet.

quarter to which everybody has been
looking for relief this spring. Optlm

ever, that while tha strike will kill
business temporarily, it will also hasten
tha cleaning up or the yards through
out the territory and eventually mean
a real live awakening when things be
gin to move down there. For several
months California purchases in the lum
ber line have been light in order to
work off tremendous stocks that ac
cumulated when everybody was ship
ping lumber.
