I Buffered untold miserr from fe
male troubles. My doctor said an opera

dreaded it almost as much as death.
"One day I read how other women
had been cured by Lydla EX Pink-ham's

Next Election.
(Special Dlipatcb to Tbe Journal.)
La Grande, Or., Feb. 27. The polltl
cal pot in Union county is simmering.
That It Is not boiling is perhaps due
to the fact that candidates for city
offices are watching it very carefully,
The city .flection takes place March 9
Politics, except from the standpoin
of the 'Socialists, who are quite strong
in
La urande, plays very little par
in the city election. The fight, if there
Is one, will be due to differences of
opinion among the electors on the llq
uor question. For some months there
has prevailed the general opinion that
Union county wnl go dry in June. Even
the saloonmen here In La Grande have
voiced the sentiment and it is reported
that aome have made arrangements to
enter other lines of business. But that
there will be a fight is becoming more
evident every day,
Dr. A. L. Richardson, the present in
cumbent of the mayor s chair. Is a can
dldate for reelection, and is an advo
cate of law and order, with a record for
more effectual regulation of the saloons
than has any previous administration
B. F. Lewis, Socialist, has been put
on tne ticp ror tne same ornce. jt
Is almost certain that the fight will be
between tne adherents of Dr. Richard
son and those of Dr. M. K. Hall, who
was tne last to enter tne race and is
regarded as the candidate of the liquor
Interests.
The other candidates for city offices
are: For treasurer J. K. Wright, to
succeed himself;, and J. K. Fitzgerald
Socialist; for marshal. J. Blever, B. M
Rogers. Ambrose Wrlfrht and John Wal-
den, the latter being the present chief;
ior recorder, u. ta. jox. j. a. Matott, c.
J. Vanderpoel and H. A. Watson, So
cialist; for councilmen. First ward, S.
N. Bolton, for reelection, William
Walnwrlght, J. L. Watson, Socialist;
Second ward, D. Bay and A. J. Warren.
Warren Is the Socialist candidate. In
the Third ward C. S. Dunn wants to
succeed himself and Is opposed by
Qeorge Krleger and the Socialist as
pirant. E. Relsland; O. M. Curtis and
A. C. Haynes will make the race in the
Fourth ward. THe Socialist candidate
Is W. T. Orider.
In the present city council there is
one Socialist member, but the party
leaders are confident of electing at
least one more this year.
