Pennsylvania for a young man who
believes his name Is Paul Jones and
that he is an orphan, but who. In
reality, is a member of an excellent
New York family and the son of
wealthy parents.
He was apprenticed from an orphan
asylum to M. C. Coughlln. a farmer
of Frlendsville, Susquehanna county.

is about 20 years old.

appeared, and It was believed, he had
been murdered. His mother had noth

Flemington,' N. J., Feb. 20. Stranded
on Ice at the' approach of the South
branch bridge, at Packer's island,
7-year-old Eddie Mathews cried plteous
ly all last night for those on the dis
tant banks to rescue him from a watery
grave. A score of farmers went to his
assistance and, repeatedly shouting to

Heavy pieces of ice were fast com
ing down the river, and the water late
last night was within a short distance
of the wagon body in. which the boy Is
marooned. One of the horses drowned.
Owing to the Ice, the rescuers are
unable to use a rowboat, and the fog
and .darkness make the work of the
rescuing party more perilous.
The boy Is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
George Mathews of- Flemington.

Baker CirV, Feb. 20. After lying idle
for months, the pumps of the famous
Red Boy mine have been started again
and the mine will soon be '.n condition
for. operation. The monster pumps
throw out about 600,000 gallons of
water every 24 hours and at this rate
the mine will be ready for operations In
about SO days. Water has risen to the
very highest points In the workings of
the mine, and the machinery and equip
ment have been greatly damaged, al
though it will require but little repairs
to start the wheels to turning when the
Immense, quantities of water have been
pumped out. The Red Bov mine was
one of the, best producers of eastern
Oregon for many years and It is thought
that It will again occupy a front rank.
