How Money Is to Be Kalsed.
Section 6 refers to the sale of bonds
Issued under authority of the act, it
being provided that they are to be sold
to the hlcrhest bidder after having been
duly advertised.
Section 6. The said the Port of
Portland shall have, and there Is here
bv rranted to it, the power to assess,
levy and collect each year a tax upon
all property, feel or personal, situated
within its boundaries, and which is by
law tsisbls for state and county pur
poses, not to exceed one-fortieth of one

by Section 6 of this act, at their ma
turity, 'and for the purpose of payini

4 Interest Bearing Bonds.
"One tenth of said bonds shall be for
the term of one year from the date

years from the date thereof; one tenth
for the term of three years from the
date thereof: one tentb for the term of
four years from the date thereof; one
tenth for the term of five years from
the date thereof; one tenth for the term
of six years from the date thereof; one
tentb for the term of seven years from
the date thereof; one tenth for the
term of eight years f-m the date there
of; one tenth for the term of nine years
from the date thereof; and one tenth
for the term of 10 years from the date
thereof. Bald bonds shall bear Interest!

Captain Kessel of the wrecked Amer

distance opposite where the vessel
went to pieces early Friday morning In
hopes of finding some of the bodies of
the 11 men who lost their lives. Ills
search proved In vain.
Largs quantities of wreckage are
drifting ashore and the coal cargo Is
washing up on the sands. Little will
remain of It in tha course of a few day a.
owing to the action of the waves, and
there la now no hope of saving much
of It All told the ship carried 1.100
tons.

the St. Johns Lumber company during
the latter part of the week and about
the same time the British steamer
Mortlake will get away for Australia
from the mills of the Portland Lumber
company. The St. Egbert goes to Manila.
MRS. JONES SENT TO
THE PENITENTIARY
Mrs. 3. J. Jones was sentenced by
Judge Cleland yesterday afternoon to
one year In the penitentiary on a plea
of guilty to the charge of robbing N. O.
Davison of 1600 and a quantity of
jewelry, although stating .to the court
that It was a case of Infatuation on
the part of Davison, who wanted her
to secure a divorce and marry him, and!
that he gave her ths money and Jewelry

year In the penitentiary and placed onl
