With a face that betrays no sign of
feeling, Joseph Anderson today listened
to the addresses of the attorneys who
are pleading with the Jury that during
the last two days has heard the evi
dence tending to prove him guilty- of
the murder of Harry M. Logan on the
Fourth street bridge on the night of
October 24. He heard himself de
nounced by Deputy District Attorney
Adams as a dastardly murderer who de
serves to die, and then he heard Attor
ney William O. Hale plead for his life.
To all of this he listened with equal
1 quiet, sitting back in his chair and
looklna- stralarht ahead.
The Jury has no explanation in the
form of testimony from the defense as
to the many links or evidence tending
to connect Anderson with the crime
of which he Is accused. When the state
closed its case yesterday afternoon his
attorneys called Detectives Tlchenor
and Jones for a few Questions, and then
announced "Wa rest" Anderson was
not called to the stand to tell about
his whereabouts on the night of the
murder, and no other witnesses were
brought in to weaken the case of the
state. All that remains is for the Jury
to say whether the evidence presented
by the state proves all the elements of
tne charge.
Deputy District Attorney Adams bo
gan his opening address to the Jury
when Judge Bronaugh took the bench
this morning and spoke for nearly two
hours In an analysis or the evidence.
The remainder of the forenoon session
was ocoupled bv William G. Hal, who
Is associated with J. A. Jeffrey for the
defense. When Hale finished this
afternm Jeffrey began the closing ar
gument for the defense, to be followed
by the final speech of the prosecutor
and the Instructions of the court. The
case probably will not go to the Jury
until near niehtrall.
Attorney Hale In his speech elab
orated the theory that the detectives
sought out a "victim' to try for the
murder of Logan, and picked out An
