Portohester, N. T., Feb. 4. Following
the biblical admonition. "If thy right
hand offend thee, cut It off," Rains-
ford Ferries, a well-known resident of
Portcbester. went Into his cellar today
and nearly severed his right hand at
the wrist with a hatchet
Upon his recovery he will be com
mitted to the Poughkeepale insane asy
lum. Physicians who have examined
him say that be Is suffering from In
sanity caused by religious mania.
Several years ago Ferries had an al
tercation with his father and struck
him with his fiat. He was afterward
nixed with remorse, and began brooding
and reading the Bible, several times n
has attempted to do Doony nam.
This watch was 'kept by the Atlanta
Constitution, which did not favor pro
hibition, and that paper's testimony 'a
believed to be unbiased. '
In a special story the Constitution ad
mlts that the elimination of whiskey has
"worked a revolution In the city's woret
quarter, and as la almost Invariably the
case, the police reoords show that the
publlo la actually saving money by the
operation of the "dry" statute.
In Atlanta, on January 4, 107, when
the high license lew was In affect, there
were 63 police cases. 12 of which were
connected with drunkenness. - -j
On January 4, 1908, Just eight days
after the dry law went into effect there
were just 17 police vases In Atlanta, not
one being for drunkenness, ' .
These facta will be uaed In arguments
being brought to bear on eongress for
legislation to make the Dletrlct of Co
lumbia dry and to forbid such Inter
state commerce which will dump "origi
nal package" liquor Into prohibition ter
ritory. ,
The brewers are already busy la the
Washington lobbies, and they have gone
no far as to write to members of eon
gress demanding that federal appropria
tions be withheld from tboae atates
where prohibition la tn force..

WHY I TELL flEN WHAT I CAN DO
Henry Ward Beecher said: "I am glad the doctor cured my friend.
I am glad that the doctor put it In the paper that he could cure him,
and if any doctor is sure that ho can cure such a disease and does not
put it in the paper, I am sorry. What a pity it would have, been had
this doctor, with his wealth of science and experience, left him un
cured? What a pity It would .have been If .the afflicted man had been
so prefudiced against advertising aa to read the responsible certificate
of the doctor and yet give him the fo-byT A reallv able man. whatever
may be Ms gifts, makes a great mistake If he falls to uee those gifts
through want of advertising." COWSUXTATIOW PBEB.

The doctor "thinks."
The doctor treats.
The doctor relieves the
symptoms.
A good doctor has some in
struments and equipment
for all ailments.
The specialist KNOWS.
The specialist CURES.
The specialist goes further
and removes the cause.
A good specialist has ALL
scientific mechanical aids
for his specialty. ,
There can be no comparison between the ability of the ordinary physician and that of the
trained and scientific specialist. The former in trying' to explore and conquer the whole field of
medicine and surgery, becomes proficient in no particular branch. The latter conscientiously con
fines himself to a single class of ills and masters them. I do not scatter my faculties, but I con
centrate them on diseases and weaknesses peculiar to the male, .

MY FEE IN ANY UNCOMPLICATED DISEASE
MEN'S DISEASES MY SPECIALTY
I have treated hundreds of men who hid long suffered a gradual decline of physical and mental en
ergy as a result of private ailments and have been interested in noting the marked general improvement
that follows a thorough cure of the chief disorder. My success in curing difficult cases of long standing
has made me the foremost specialist treating men's diseases. This success is due to several things. It is
due to the study I have given my specialty; to my having ascertained the exact nature of men's ailments,
and to the original, distinctive and thoroughly scientific methods of treatment I employ. .
To, those in doubt as to their true condition who wish to avoid the serious results that may follow
neglect, I offer free consultation and advice, either a( my office, or through correspondence. If your case
is one of the few that has reached an incurable stage, I will not accept it for treatment, nor will I urge
my services upon anyone. I treat curable cases only and cure all cases I treat
Weakness
So called "weakness" In men Is
curable fully curable. It has not
been cured by those measures
conlmonly employed, for they are
methods based upon supposition
and not upon fact? Premature
news and. loss of "power in men Is
due to a chronic state of Inflam
mation in the prostate gland, and
not to a disordered nervous con
dition, as has been supposed. I
treat the Inflammation bv a local
process that does not fall to ac
complish its purpose and with
this condition corrected full and
complete strength and vigor re
turn. STRICTURE My treatment Is
absolutely painless and perfect
results can be depended . upon In
very instance. I do no cutting
or dilating whatever.

Every case of contracted disease
I treat is thoroughly cured; my pa
tients have no relapses. When I
pronounce a case cured there Is not
a particle of Infection or inflamma-
, tlon remaining and there Is not the
slightest danger that the disease -will
return in its original form or
work Its way Into the general
system. No contracted disorder
Is so trivial as to warrant uncer
. tain methods of treatment, and I
especially solicit those cases that
other doctors havo been unable to
- cure. v -
