CONCRETE
Architect Wants New Style
v of Houses to Look
; Substantial.
"If you employ concrete, let It look
like concrete, design for concrete, ellm
'Inate all thought of atone, brick, wood
or plaster," aays Albert Moyer, a noted
. purist in architecture. "Let the house
. stand up and 'be able . to -'say to the
t casual observer, 'I am solid, strong, aub-
stantiai, auraoie, Deautirui and am ot
concrete.' That which looks right to
' the trained eye Is right
.' . "For country residences, particularly
where there are winding, roads, trees, a
i hillside and possibly rocks concrete
treated as concrete looks right," Con
tinuing the same authority says, that It
would be difficult to evolve ftom the
Imagination an original style of archi
tecture, using the materials which have
been worked and overworked for thou
sands of years. The temptation to qppy,
translate and transplant Is too great
' It is simpler, better and more in accord
with nature's laws to develop an orig
inal style - from the employment of a
: different material than was previously
used in the development of the older
styles. . Convenience and adaptability
seem to point to concrete as a material
best suited to assist in developing what
the Moyer calls "American Architect
ture." '
