He pointed out that the city would then
be in a position to receive competitive
bids for street lighting each year from
the gas ana electric companies.

Mr. Huber made a statement In which
he denned th electrio company's post
tlon. He said that it would be neces
sary for hi company to have a five
year contract If the city desired to se
cure electrio lights, beoause It would be
necessary to install new machinery and
equipment at a great coat on which no

Mr. Huber said he wished the mem

City Enalneer Taylor reiterated his
previous statement that the estimated
cost of Installing a municipal plant
would be about 1660,000. He said the
available water supply In Bull Run
river would furnish about 1,000 horse
power, a sufficient amount to provide
for the city's needs for years to coma
A general discussion followed the
statements of the officials and repre
sentatives of the lighting companies, in
which Mr. Papst read from sclentlflo
journals to show that gas lighting is
replacing eiecirio iignung in many eu
ro dm n and American cities. It was
also brought out in the discussion that
the Mount Hood Railway aV Power com-
fany would soon be able to furnish eleo
