Manufacturers who every four years
have been paying tribute to the Repub
lican national machine in exchange for
so-called "protection." are demanding
that the tariff question be taken out of

senting the strongest industrial inter
ests on the Pacific coast, yesterday
passed resolutions supporting this de
mand. The trustees of the Portland

a resolution unanimously adopted, that
