MME. CARKEN0 WINS
CHICAGO AUDIENCE
Of the Beethoven sonata which Mme.
Carreno will play at her recital Monday
evening at the Marquam, Glenn DUlard
Gunn of the Chicago Inter Ocean wrote:
"No other woman, and but too few men,
can play Beethoven as Carreno does, and
never has it been my good fortune to
hear the Apasl sonata interpreted with
such faultless poise, yet with such a
wealth of warm, glowing emotion. It
was the supreme art of full maturity
that finds contemplative Joy In beauty
as well as exuberant Joy In the con
sciousness of achievement. The years
that have passed since we last heard
Carreno have brought no change to her
ait There is the same all-embracics
technique that can be orchestral in its
maBsiveness or as aeticate as tne cob
web that clothed Tltania. There is the
some widely varied tone that empha
sises a dramatio climax or sings a mel
ody with all those subtle modulations
which words canqot describe." The re
cital Monday at the Marquam Is under
the direction of Lois Steers-Wynn Co
man and seats are now selling at the
box office
