Due to the openlna loos of fraction

bears holding complete nossesslon of
the floor. May went to $1.00 as com

The market cloaed at the low figure.
There waa some ral vln aunnort to

BOARD OF TRADE IN
ACTION AS III NAME
Happy Day 3
Holden G. & C 3
According to President T. S. Town-
send" of the board of trade, the organiz
ation is to follow new lines in the fu
ture. "There Is a very grat need here,"
he saya, "for a place where the produce
and grain merchants can get together
and talk over market conditions and
see what prices are to rule that day
according to supply and demand.
"Ttie board or trade has rented apart-
monts in the new Commercial club
building and .Will have ground flour
quarters on Oak street. It- is the pres
ent intention to have tables, around
which the various trade representatives
will meet and talk over business every
day. For Instance, there will be a place
where Front street produce merchants
will meet and another where the butter
men will -congregate and talk over sun-
piles, prices and demand.
For years there has been a arreat de
mand for unifdtm wheat Quotations in
this market -the. largest on the Pacific
coast and we Intend to install a place
for the lepresentatlves of that trade as
soon as we move into- the new quarters.
We have talked with various people re
garding this Protect and find most rtt
them to be in favor of such a move
ment. Portland Is getting to be too
great a lty to hold onto the styles and
methods of years ago." , ,

chardists and at the present time many,
tracts of land are being planted with
these nuts. It has been satisfactorily
demonstrated that the growing of these
trees Is a success and that the crop is
a profitable one. One tree In an Al
bany yard last year produced over $30
worth of finest quality nuts and many
residents of the city are planting these
trees in their curbs so as to have a
profitable as well as a most beautiful
shade tree. Many of the local markets
have been offering home-grown nuts
for sale and they hnve proven equal in
quality to the finest of the California
product.
It is predicted by local nurserymen
that In the very near future Oregon
walnuts will enter Into active competi
tion with the output from the southern
state and make her look to her laurels
In this regard. .Oregon walnuts as well
as her apples are destined to bring new
laurels to this valley and make the
state famous.

EASTERN ONIONS ARE
DUE ON PUGET SOUND
Two cars of eastern onions are due
to arrive in the Pugot sound markets
either Monday or Tuesday, and for that
reason defiand Is slackening for Oregon
stock at tne higher price. Several more
cars are likewise due at San Francisco
about the same time, and two are now
en route to this city.
At the moment the market here is
dull and dragging, but prices are show
ing no change whatever, growers not
being willlns to unload under $3. They
appear confident they will get this fig
ure and intend to hold. On the other
hand the dealers are buying in the east
and intend to take chances on bringing
n a rew cars, aespite tne unfavorable
weather and chances of freezing en
route.
