In a rooming-house and booked on a
charge of forgery. It is alleged by
the police that for the past two years
Lawson has been passing forged or
worthless checks all over the country.
It la believed that within two vara
ha has swindled various merchants and
small atorekeepers from Tennessee and
Arkansas to tha Pacific . coast of mora
than $10,000.
Lawson was arrested arter a two
weeks' chase by the detectives. . The
specific. charge on which he was ar
rested was for the alleged swindling
of a wine company here out of JiO-on
a check drawn on an Oakland savings
bank, at which ha bad no account.
