covered that O. Cr Mathis, proprietor
and cashier of the State Bank of Blaine,
who baa left for parts unknown, forged
the names of banking- men to $3,000
worth of school bonds before bis de
parture." - The affairs of the bank are In
a hopeless muddle, and many creditors
await the return or Matms.
The first intimation that the affairs
of the bank were tangled came when
the officials failed to open the doors.
When an Investigation waa made as to
tne cause or tne rauure to open mo
doors the statement was Issued that
there was no money In the vaults to
ay checks. Announcement was made
hat a receiver would be asked for. -
i It la stated on aood authority that
Mathla foraad the names of J. F. Tilly.
Hale Smith and Frederick F. Collid to
the school bonds, . and then disposed ot
them. Mathis Is also alleged to have
used the name of the Washington Trust
company of ' Seattle in attempting te
secure a transfer of $2,100 from the op
position bank In. Blaine to his own in-
Maaa was in Seattle at tne time.
When the telegram was received by the
opposition bank the officers did not un

telephone and learned that they knew
