the reason that no business man will

course. It's not good business. If the
association tied the crops up for ons
year it would not be so bsd. I believe
the association could be a success If it

buying of supplies. I would Join the as
sociation myself if that was what It In
tended doing, but as matters stand the
man who has 100 acres has no more
say over the affairs of the organisation

brought about a lower range or vaiuea
at the opening of the stock marxet to
ils v and with the exceDtlon of In North-
ern Pacific and Missouri Paclflo greater
losses were shown during tne aay.
Northern Paclflo waa about the only
one of ths leaders thst waa abls to hold
its head above water during today's
trading and it closed the (lay with a
rain of nearly 2H points over the final
bid flrurea of yesterday. To account
for this sharp advanoe in the face of
sharp losses in other issuer many tne
ories were advancsd by tradera. An
other Story of melon-cutting is going the
rounas.
Conditions In the money market were
moat favorable today for a strong un
dertone but this did not hold prices
from melting away. Call loans opened
around 4 per cent and toward the end of
the session funds were being offered as
low as zh per cent.
American Smelting common shares
were hit hardest by the down-turn of
prloea-during the day and on adverae
rumors regarding business and the
weakness of copper shares, lost nearly
4 points as compared with yesterday's
closing.

part of it that could not be concealed

several petty thefts.

gained entrance to the resldsncs of IL

blow in the eye that knocked him down.

street. Thess men rslsed an outcry
that frightened the white man and he

on First street he ran Into the arms of
Patrolman Joaeph Burke, who arrested
him snd took him to the police station.
He gave his nams as R. F. Love and
declared that he had no Intention of
robbing the Chinese. As there was no
direct evidence t an attempt to rob a

against ths man, and hs will be tried
on this charga tomorrow.
