Santa Rosalia is believed to be In
fected with typhoid fever because on
two vessels that have arrived here re
cently several members , of the crews
have fallen victims to tha disease In
most virulent form. Two men died on
tha British bark Mlltonburn a few days
ago and one expired on the German
bark Relnbek Thursday, shortly after
the vessel had arrived at Astoria.
Since typhoid Is supposed to develop
within two weeks, and the cases re
ported here did not develop until much
onsrer than that after the vessels left
Hanta Rosalia, it is supposed that th
drinking water carried along, mus
have ' been slightly infected. Several
of the crew of the Reinbek were down
with the disease, but all except one
recovered before tha vessel reached

''Weakness"- isn't ,l weakness, at
