Fonr painters working on a building
at Third and East Burnslde streets had
a narrow escape from death yesterday
'.afternoon when the scaffold on which
. they were working broke and precipi
tated them to the cement sidewalk 10
feet below. Two of the men escaped
, with but slight injuries and In a few
'minutes were able to go to their bomea.
.The other two were more seriously in
jured. Henry Mathieu. sustained a com
pound fracture of the leg and a broken
wrist, and H. E. Goodwin had his hip
, and back severely bruised. Both men
-were taken to St. Vincent's hospital.
