Detective Sergeant Jones and Detec

Hunts usual memoa or procedure
was to sro to a house and represent hlm

That the lawyers of the city should
not use the attachment laws for 30
days after the close of the holidays was
the resolve of the meeting of attorneys
at the courthouse last night. The only
exception made to this rule Is In the
case of non-residents who refuse to
produce cash to pay their debts.
President W. M. Cake of the Mult
nomah Bar association presided at the
meeting. C. A. Bell championed thy
idea of allowing attachment in the case
of small amounts for grocer and meat
market bills, afterward evplaining thfU
by this he did not mean to discrlmlnato
against poor people, but only against
those who have money but refuse to pay
their small bills.
B. S. McAllister revived the sugges
tion of calling an extra session or the
legislature to amend the attachment
law. G. W. Joseph and R. W. Montague
wanted to se th principle of the Wash
ington law adopted, but in the end a
resolution presented by Newton MOoy
was passed only a few votes beirw cast
In the negative. This resolution reads:
Resolved, That it Is the sense of this
meeting that the attachment laws of
this state be not used for the period of
30 days after the cessation of the holi
days, except where necessary to obtain
