Horribly mangled by having an ele vator fall upon him, Nicholas Bacher, an employe of the Portland hardware and Steel company, waa. taken yesterday to the Good Samaritan hospital where he waa found to be fatally injured. Aa there were no eye-witnesses to the acci dent. It la not known how the accident happened or how long the unfortunate man waa pinned beneath the elevator. Bruere, was damaged to the extent of $50, fully covered by Insurance. The annual postofflce examination for the Portland. Oregon. postofflce has been postponed from November 16 to November 23. Olsen pleaded guilty to the charge of assault with a danger ous weapon by shooting at some police men who had knocked on the door of his room. Bert Whitney, a young man employed In the Portland Lumber company's mill at the foot of Lincoln street, yesterday was struck In the thigh by a sliver hurled from a ripsaw. Buck this morning took out ft building permit for the construction of a $14,000 residence on Flanders street between Twenty-second and Twenty-third streets.
