Chicago, Seot. 25. The wheat market
started strong at the high point of the
day on extreme bullishness abroad, the
higher cables and the most excellent
caah demand everywhere. The loss of
lo from the nrlce of Inst nlffht was
caused by liea vy liquidation of former

Sentiment, among traders Is rather
mixed. The action of the market of
late has shown that it easily rallies
from sll breaks.
Broom hall cabled from Liverpool that
the market there was firm on the better

With the plana of the county board of
commlsasloner to enlarge the Jail at
Kelly butts so aa to double it capacity,
Is included a new method of managing
the Institution by making present Chief
Guard Brlgg auperlntendent of it, thus
placing the rock pll entirely under his
control.
The county officials have been so en
couraged by tha success of the rock pile
ss an adjunct to building good roads
that thev hava determined to enlarge
the capacity of the Institution. threby
Increasing the number of miles of new
roads that can be built.
Accommodation for 160 prisoners will
be provided at the rock pile when the
new addition to the Jail, plans for
which are now being drawn, is complet
ed. The present capuclty Is about 65.
With so large a force of prisoners at
work on the rock pile, the methods of
controlling lha "institution that have
heretofore proved satisfactory will glvs
way to more centralised power and au
thority in the persen of Brlgga as super
intendent of the rock pile. , '
Work on the new addltldn to tha jail
Will be commenced as soon as the plan
can ba drawn and the material ordered.
Both sleeping and dining room space
will be doubled by the new addition, and
the output of crushed rock will be cor
respondingly Increased.
Room for all the prisoners in the city
jail will thus be provided and It will
enable the police officers to keep tha
city clear of hobos and other undesir
able persona by making room for them
on the rock pile as fast as they are arrested.
Many strangers are arriving in Lake

(Special Dispatch te Th Journal.)
Eugene. Or.. Sept. 25. F. B. Dunn,
C. S. Williams. George A. Dorrls and
A. C. Woodcock, of this city, have formed
a company and bought 200 acres of fine
bottom land, seven miles north of Eu
gene for the purpose of setting out an
immense Royal Anne cherry orchard.
A greater part of the tract will be set
to cherries, although there will be some
winter apples, pears and peaches. The
land was owned by Richard Robinson.
who Is the nephew of the original own
er, "Dickie" Robinson, one of the bes:
known pioneers of Lane county. These
gentlemen have also purchased of
Henrv Loreti. a 75-acre tract near their
orchard tract on which they will plant
asparagus for the market. Mr. Dorrls
has successfully raised asparagus on his
farm at Springfield and made money by
shipping It to Portland. He will super
intend the operation of this farm. It
will probably be the largest asparagus
farm on the coast. ,
