CHEESE MARKET . . . HALF CENT D017II Price Cut4b 16c ;Ovvinir to Lower 3Iarkets Elsewhere Supplies ' Are " Liberal. Latest market feature: Lemon buyer handed a lemon. Cheese market I lower. Lower prlcea In onlona. Potatoes at a standstill. , Some blHckberrlea are coming. Sweet potatoea find better ssle. Poultry hurt by grasping doalers, Orape market Is In fine shape. Flour market looks higher again. Wheat sales again liberal. Candles are quoted higher. Hops are purchased quietly. . Caees Xarekt Xm Lower. On acoount of the high prices now ruling and the liberal supplies at Til lamook, counted with the lower markets "elsewhere Valuea in the local cheese' market are ruliy He a pound lower to day. Sixteen cents Is now the top for i win natf. while Young Americas .are slow at 17c a pound. The fact that a considerable amount of eastern cheeso haa been brought here haa only re sulted In a further, weakening of local valuea. For several weeks the trade hue been vainly trying to hold up twin flats to 16H17e a pound, but sales ore few and far between. Even with the present lower range tha market Is wesa ana auui Duyers snowing no on position whatever to do bualneas at this uaais. nuiarri si i tusmoon are nui much concerned over the dullness now ruling In all Pacific coaat cheese mar ket; all of then expressing the opinion that the market will go back to former high levela at no distant date. Those that brought easte Into this market are perhaps the worst that brought eastern cheese 'sufferers from the present dullness. There are a number of grades of east ern stock offering at this time but the best cannot be sold at the figures now ruling for local stuff. Will Try to Advanos Egg. The egg market regain in a mixed condition. Receipts an about the salne aa they have been for several weeks too light for the demand and eastern stocks are supplying the major part of the trade. So scarce are local arrival Generally that one of the large eastern irms brought in a csr of fresh stock In a refrigerator yesterday. Chicken Market lva Blow. Chicken supplies along Front street nre very liberal and in order to move stocks, some of the dealers cut values under those printed yesterday. Those dealers who have been holding up the trade for about lo a pound over .the printed quotations are directly respon sible for the present break. It Is stated that returns were In no esses made over the prices listed by The Journal; so those that squeezed the last cent out their buyers are that much In while the shipper Is out. The future of the mar ket is entirely dependent upon the sup pies. Liberal one win wreca values, Dressed Meats Hard to Oct. Nine Cents Is now easily obtained for first-class small veal In . the Front street markets. 'There are reports of a . still higher figure being squeexed by grasping dealers, but these cannot be confirmed. Receipts of frist-class siock are nominal. Small hoga find a very good call these days and the former prices are very easily maintained. Creamery butter market is exceed ingly weak with sales of first class out- Mie nroduct at 304 33 He a pound. . "While the city creameries are still ask ing 35c for the best product It Is stated that some sates are being maae at a cut, Brief Wot of the Trade- Potato market la at. a standstill ow ing to the lower market In the south and the car shortage. Onions are lower here but Portland Is still the highest onion market on the coast. No outlet at present. CruDf market is In better shape on' account of small arrivals from the south. Concords are now arriving more free v. Small baskets at 17 20c while crates are going at 7&cJ1.00, ac cording: to Dark. 1 Peach market Is lifeless, owing to the hlsh Drlces asked and the poor quality Sweet potatoes are somewhat firmer ' with supplies scant. A car was due to ' arrive this morning. Market at 2i(f 2Hc A few crates of blackberries ore ar riving. Selling at 1.251.50 a crate for 24s. Cream mixed and French candles show an advance of 2c a pound today. No change In chocolates. Williams. George A. Dorrls and A. C. Woodcock, of this city, have formed a company and bought 200 acres of fine bottom land, seven miles north of Eu gene for the purpose of setting out an immense Royal Anne cherry orchard. A greater part of the tract will be set to cherries, although there will be some winter apples, pears and peaches. The land was owned by Richard Robinson. who Is the nephew of the original own er, "Dickie" Robinson, one of the bes: known pioneers of Lane county. These gentlemen have also purchased of Henrv Loreti. a 75-acre tract near their orchard tract on which they will plant asparagus for the market. Mr. Dorrls has successfully raised asparagus on his farm at Springfield and made money by shipping It to Portland. He will super intend the operation of this farm.
