The passing of the deceased wife's

extended over 40 years, has led to some
amusing correspondence between coun

What Is known as the middle clasa In
London has had much to talk about
since the areat autumn drama. 'The
Sins of Boclety," was produced at Drury
Lane. Arthur Collins, the artlstlo rain

he had a nice "row" with the authors
Messrs. Cecil Raleigh and Henry Ham

Mr Hamilton, who Is a very irascible
Individual, waa determined that the
lady villain should be adequately pun

hnpjiy ending, and of course had his
way.
It may be mentioned that one of the
Incidents In the play la the placing of
lumna of coal In a box to take the
place of diamonds. This of course is
based on the recent oaee of Lord Wil
liam Nevll, who Is now suffering one
year's imprisonment (his second con

Another very up-to-date Incident in
tha "81ns of Society" la a "freak din

Richard Croker scored another great
victory by having gained permission to
train his horses at Newmarket. Dr.

Is said to have been responsible for 6b-tfiinlno-
the iiecesuarv oermlt from the
Jockev club, which snubbed Mr. Croker
so severely some time ago.
Rrltlshers will do almost anything

his beat horses to Newmarket, and his

be the principal figure on the British
turf, which he was forced to quit for
Irish ground.
There are hundreds of racing men who
thought then Mr. Croker had been very
shabbily treated, and who will welcome
him bck to the center of English rac

that his Derby winner Orby will not
be able to compete for the great St.

an equine form of diabetes.
Mr. Crolter nag not yet engaged a
