The Third Presbyterian church waa organized September 17, 1882. with 24 charter members. It took the name of the First Presbyterian church and so ciety of East Portland, Oregon. After the consolidation of East Portland with Portland the name waa changed to that which it now bear, the first Church of Portland and Calvary Presbyterian ohurch ranking It The first house of worship waa erected on East Oak street, between Orand avenue and East Sixth street Later this building was removed to tne corner oi Hast Ninth and oak. About five years ago the old building was movea to tne Dresent location. East Thirteenth and Pine, and a com modious house of worship erected. Kev. JJ. o. unormiey. u. U.. was the organiser of the oburoh and Its first pastor. He retired from the pastorate m ana waa succeeded dt Kev. vv J. Arnold, who ia now dead.- He waa followed by Rev. J. E. Snyder. Mizpah Presbyterian church has grown directly from the Third church and at least three other churches have received material strength at the time of their organization.
