hero of several Indian wars and on of
the argonauts of th early '50s. died
yesterday at Anaconda of Bright' dis
ease. Brio was awarded a medal for
signal bravery during the Nes Perce
war In 1877 In connection with th res
cue of th 6-year-old daughter of an
army officer named Manuel.
Brlce had been taken captive by th
Indiana, but through tha friendship of a
Nes Perce chief he was given opportu
nity to escape. , It wss wl.il he waa
stealthily making his way crawling
through the brush to evade the hostile
Nes Perces that he heard the cry of
the child for "mamma" near the Indian
camp. At great riak to himself, with
the redskins within striking distance,
he succeeded in gaining possession of
th child, and after two days of great
