Exporters of grain have a grudge
at themselves for not engaging a large
fleet of sailing vessels a month or two
ago when thev could have been had for
from 23 to 25 shillings a ton whereas
they are now being held at 80 shillings
or more If anywheres near at hand.
The exporters could have coined thou
sands of dollars had they ventured to
gamble on freights as some of them did
a few years ago, but at that time they
got bumped.
Yesterday two sailing vessels, the
French barks Noeml anil Brtxeux. were
fixed to carry wheat and flour to Ku
rupe, the Noeml to load here, while the
I Brlzeux may be loaded here or on Puget
sound. The latter Is now en route to
this port from Newcastle, Australia,
with a cargo of coal. The Noeml Is at
Swansea loading coal for Seattle, neat
ly & Co. took the Noeml while the Port
land Flouring Mills company engaged
the Hrlzeux. This fact leads to the be
lief that the Brlzeux stands a very good
chance of being diverted here Instead
ot to the sound.
That Portland will send away more
wheat than any other port on the Pa
cific coast during the season now open
ing ud In real earnest Is the common
understanding among grain shippers and
it would surprise no one to see the port
beat her own records In point of prom
inence among leading wheat exporting
centers of the United States. For a long
time i-ortiana maintained third place

time, but there is a possibility of tho
metropolis on the Willamette gaining
Beconu place for the year. The crops
are bountiful and It Is expected that tho
railroad companies will meet the car
aemanus more readily than last year
when snips were compelled to wait
weeks upon weeks for cargoes. The
reciprocal demurrage law. It is believed
will help the wheat exporters greatly
since the railroads will undoubtedly
make every effort to avoid being held up

Wheat Oomea More Freely.
VV heat has been coming In fairly
freely, although by no means as rapidly
as aesirea, auring ine pa.st several days
and exporters are promised better ser
vice In a short while when It Is be
lieved that more cars will be available.
Some exporters stated yesterday that
they have been getting from 40 to 60
per cent of the cats asked for since the
beginning of the season, which Is a
little better than the service given last
year.
That charter rates are climbing up
steadily is further Indicated by the fact
that the British ship Yola, which has
leeh lying Idle at the elevator dock for
several months, Is refusing 30 shillings
in expectancy or getting possibly 85,
The vessels reported chartered yester
day were taken at 27s 6d. the rate es-
Predge to Resume Operations
Month of Willamette.
Dredging at the mouth of the Wil
lamette will be resumed at an early
date, and the channel made deep enough
for the largest craft In the Pacific
ocean trade. The pilots have made a re
quest upon Colonel Koessler. I'nlted
States engineers, and before long opera
tions for a deeper channel will be re
sumed at the confluence of tho Columbia
and Willamette rivers.
The dredges of th Port of Portland
have been operated at that part of the
river for some time, but thev were re
cently shifted to other localities where
deeper water was dewlred. It lias been
decided to tear out an old dvke at the
mouth of the Willamette, the pilots
contending that the dvke is largely re
sponsible for the shifting of the chan
nel. It Is also bellend that the build
ing of the piers for the imrnen.se rail
road bridge across the Columbia near
Vancouver is in a measure responsible
for the strange behavior of the river
The engineers expect to have the
channel In condition to easily accommo
date the largest t

Extreme low water seldom Interferes
with shipping here, and none of the
vessels dispatched with from 7,000 to

The fireman of the America lighted

he found the engine room in flamea and
soon the oil tank exDloded. The force

The towboat F. R. Jonea came along
shortly after the fire started and poured
two streams of water on the flamea un

time there remained little of the craft
excepting the hull beneath the watT

Buoceos isn't attained at a bound. It is made up
of many little triumphs. A large medical prac
tice doesn't await the young physician at the
college door. He must prove himself. He must
work toward success day after day, doing well
each day's tasks.
It has always been my rule to promise noth
ing that I am not absolutely certain of accom
plishing. Realizing that no one physician can
successfully undertake to cure all diseases. I en
tered special courses of study In preparation for
my present work. For sixteen years I have been
proving my ability and bulldin-f my success. I
have mastered, first the slmnler '!. th.n
the serious complex and stubborn ones that others neither cure nor compre
hend. I have confined my efforts to diseases of men exclusively, and there Is
no ailment belonging to this class that I cannot fully conquer. I make broad
and definite claims. I tell men that I can cure them, even though othera have
failed. Jealous doctors have charged me with claiming too much. Dut. I ask.
wherein have I failed to fulfill a promise? My practice Is now fully twice that
of any other specialist upon the Pacific coast treating men's diseases. It has
grown to these dimensions because I have made promises and fulfilled them.
Each cure I have effected Is a triumph and a manifestation of skill that has
had Its part In the making of my success. Each day new cures are completed,
and my present growth of practice Is more rapid than ever before.
Consultation Is free. If you are afflicted, consult, me. You can rely upon

ter, but to permanently restore
strength and vigor Is a problem
that but few physicians have
solved. I never treat for tem
porary effects. Under my sys
tem of treatment every bit of
Improvement Is a part of a c-er-
manent cure. Though other phy
sicians have, through my success
In effecting permanent cures, been
convinced of the fact that pre
matureness, loss of power, etc.,
are hut symptoms res-ultlng from
chronic Inflammation or conges
tion In the prostate bland none
have as yet been able to duplicate
my cures. My system of local
treatment is the only effective
means yet known for restoring
the prostate to Its normal state,
which always results in full and
complete return of strength and
vigor. Such a cure Is absolutely
permanent, because the condition
responsible for the functional dis
order is entirely removed. It is
the only kind of a cure a patient
desires, and Is the only kind of
cure I will treat for.

In selecting a physician or specialist, when in need of one, some
consideration and thought should be given to the qualifications, experi
ence and length of time an institute or medical man has been located

mushroom institutions that spring up in a night, last a few months and
