Ik in Hi Aluminum Machine and Thus Raises and Propels at Once Proposes to Manufacture. THE OREGON SUNDAY JOURNAL PORTLAND, SUNDAY MORNING, SEPTEMBER 9, ' 1907. (Spoilol Plapatch to The Journal.) Albany, Or., Sept. 7 A new Inventive genius has been discovered near Sclo, In Linn county, In the person of Pan Vojta Chladek, who gives promise of rising to fame and distinction as an Inventor of dirigible machines to trav- 'ja the air. The Inventor Is enthus- astlc over the prospects of successful aerial navigation and believes the day Is not far distant when each person can be the owner of a machine that will travel through the air as freely as the birds. The danger attending railroad ing, automoblllng and every known means of transportation will be elimi nated. Pan Vojta Chladek was born In Bo hemia over 60 years ago. He came to this country at about the ago of 20 years. Fur convenience he signs his name V. Chladek, by which he Is gen erally known, lie has been engaged In Vim)? 1 fit Chladek'B Airship. 0 4 t - -6 if I inr " t liniriM iilmll Pan Vojt a Chladek. various pursuits, working for many years at milling and lias also been en gaged In business. ., During these years much of his time has been devoted to the perfecting of Inventions In mill anil farm machinery and labor-Having devices. As a magician he excels and Is really an adept In the speed. By the simple use of more or less of the compressed air the ma chine can be propelled faster, slower, higher and lower, according to the de sire of the operator. The wings of the machine are con structed of heavy silk and are six by four feet and are also operated by the use of the feet, the action being simi lar to that of a bicycle. Besides giving the machine a balance they assist In holding the machine In space and give It motion In combination with the com pressed air. The tall Is also constructed of heavy silk and Is six by three feet and operated In the same manner as the wings. This serves as the rudder or guide to the machine and Is capable of being moved to the right or left, up or down, so as to drive the ship In the desired direction. This flying machine. thoroughly flipped and pf snfrtctent strength carry all the necessary machinery and the weight of one man, weighs but 92 pounds, the cost of construction being very low. Larger Machines by Bleotrlcltr. Larger machines with a greater ca pacity for passengers and freight can be built on the same principle by in troducing electric energy Instead of de pending on the foot power. This energy could be supplied to the machine from a central power house. The larger ma cMnrs will bo Incnpnhle of the ready direction at Mill, us Is the one-man ma chine, and would of necessity, be con fined to ime general course of travel. The Inventor pays that railroad trains, street cars and other means of transpor- and his plan right of way and roadbed. Mr. fhladelc has Just returned from the MFt, where lie formed a partner ship for the purpose of promoting the matter of aerial navigation und to con struct a larger and more complete model. To assist him In these aafflrs he has Invented and con structed hundreds of small devices to permit him to successfully carry out nls undertakings In the rolo of magician. Hince settling near Sclo he has ac quired a fine dairy ranch nnd has be come Independently rich, and Is so situ ated that he can devote a great por tion of his time and energies to In ventlve undertakings, especially to the perfection of his flying machine. His flying machine Is the result of a lifetime of study and this has been brought to such a state of perfection that he believes he has solved the ques tion of aerial navigation and has a machine perfect In detail and structure. Imitate JTot Birds, tut the Bee. Four or more years ago he concluded that the only successful manner In which to fly Is to Imitate the birds the difficult problem belli Involved In the question of holding the machine In space. Believing balloons Impracticable on account of their bulky nature and the Impossibility of ever successfuly facing the wind or directing them to the desired qtiarter; considering that aeroplanes were not a success. He de cided to Imitate the flight of the birds as nearly as possible. Here was another problem, the wings of birds being ennrmouHly large In pro portion to the size or their bodies In support the weight of a man would require very large wings. After study ing all manner of birds and flying things, he concluded that bees possessed tlie smallest wings in proportion '' ,;, . ..i, .i !hV" rt.thj;Lr irli" an,i :':n:,!t 1 Xmx thV i, kv. ll uunnu uil ills iikii miir rn ie:iii imi the model of a bee as was possible. This elty hnd a guest of more than usual celebri ty Thursday In the person of Esther Mitchell of Holy Roller fame. The manner of her appearance was quite dramatic. She was found at t o'clock In the morning In the empty hall of the Sailors' union on lower F street. Of ficer Kelly found the woman, alono. She said she was Esther Mitchell and that In looking for a lodging house she had seen the door open and had gone In to seek a resting place. The officer took her to the station, where she was put In the women's ward for the rest of the night. When brought Into police court It was found that her Story was true and she was allowed to depart.
