Rev. Thomas Brown, provincial of the
Redemptorlst order of tha St. Louis
provinces, announces as a result of his
' recent visit that a church and school
will be built In the Holy Redeemer par
ish at Piedmont. It Is expected the
new church will be ready for the Christ
mss nun. Plana for tha building have
been prepared by Architect Joseph Ja
cobberger. It will cost 19,000. Rev.
Mr. Brown was moat favorably lm-
rreased with Portland and its posstbili
les and was anxious for his order to
have a handsome home in this city.

Harry Smith, who was accused of
stealing $70 from the office of the Reg
ulator line on December 29 was dis
missed this morning by Deputy District
Attorney H. B. Adams, who filed In

Excursion Cascade Locks The Reg
ulator line steamer Capitol City will
make the trip to Cascade Locks and re

The largest realty transaction re
ported yesterday was the purchase by
Enos Battenfcourt of the 60-foot lot
at the northeast corner of Eaat Couch
and Grand avenue. The property be
longed to Laurence Reynolds, and
brought $11,000.
L. R. Falrchlld has purchased the
house and lot at the southwest corner
of Hawthorne avenue and East Eleventh
street. The holding was owned by Her
man Gurband. and sold for $4,000.
Another east side residence that
changed hands yesterday was the Al
fred Malston home, at the southwest
corner of Shaver street and Gantenbeln
avenue, which was purchased by Adna
Cochran for $3,750.

the White Temple, returned yesterday
with Mrs. Brougher from a trip to
Southern California, The doctor
preached for Bob Burdette at the Tem
ple auditorium for three Sundays. He
was greeted by immense congregations
on every occasion. The Los Angeles
papers were filled with glowing ac
counts of hia services. The doctor was
on a vacation trip, and says he delivered
17 addresses, lectures and sermons In
15 days. The press and the people
showed him every possioie oouriesy ana
made his visit to Los Angeles a most
delightful and happy one.
Tomorrow morning at the White Tem
ple he will give some of his Impressions
of "The City of Angels" and the Tem
