The Business Tide
IS STILL RISING
Five years ago timid business men all over the
world felt that the tide of business prosperity must
soon turn -that the pendulum must shortly swing
backward to the other side that risingvalues, ex
tensive investments of savings funds, the enor
mous increase in volume of business in every line
must bring the dreaded reaction; must bring "hard
times."
There are not so many of these timid people now
but there are still some whotre afraid of their
own shadows in a business way; and who see evil
portent in every speck on the business horizon.
A great man once defined a pessimist as "one
who sees two evils where but one exists, AND AC
CEPTS .THEM BOTH." Occasionally a mer
chant justifies this definition.
The real EBUSINESS OPTIMIST is he who
refuses to see even one evil wjhere two exist or to
accept either. V
As a matter of fact, the wisest business men (not
the most optimistic but the most far-seeing) be
lieve, at the present moment, that BUSINESS
FLOOD-TIDE IS A LIFETIME AWAY!,,
With usual and harmless fluctuations, BUSI
NESS IS GOING TO BE BETTER AND BET
TER EVERY YEAR FOR THE REST OF OUR
NATURAL LIVES so that WE should not'
spend much time worrying about what we will do
when "hard times" come again. AND, as always,
in good and poor times,
the merchant who advertises most ludiciously
is going to be the biggest merchant in his line;
and the one who is "next best" in advertising
will be "next best" in standing and prosperity.
