army of Inventors. A number of de-
vlcea to accomplish this object have
been reglatered with the patent office.
Some or them are rather complicated
and elaborate pieces of mechanism,
which makes them unavailable for the
purpose either because of the expenae
attached to their acquirement or the
spare ronaumed after they have been
Installed.
It Bcems that this operation of cut

la an unpardonable aln to have it a
trifle too lone on one side or the other,

acute than the eye of a dear feminine
friend. What seems to be an implement

the minutest precision.

The numerous accidental deaths co
Incident with the employment of targets
for rifle and gun practice have opened
up a good field for Inventors. Unfor
tunately little success has attended ef
forta along tbla line, the best that has
been patented being shown here, the In
vention of a Canadian colonel. This
aelf-reglatering target doea away with
the human marker. Electricity la the
agent employed for the purpose. Ham
mers behind the target receive the im
pact of the bullets. The hammers in
fasten In the rear. There la always
more or leas difficulty to catch these
enda aa they dangle down his back.
An Improvement haa been made In the
manufacture of auspendera recently by
which much of thia loat labor may be
saved to be expended In a more praise
worthy direction. The manufacturer
referred to haa devlaed a ayatem of
identification, by means of which, when
the gentleman reaching out blindly in
the rear for the ends of his suspendera
la enabled to know just which one he
haa aecured when his efforts have been
rewarded with aucceaa. This haa been
accomplished by making each end
slightly different from the wther. For
Instance, one has a double point and
the other a alngle one, or one end will
be aupplled with a tiny button and the
other end with two, ao that the man la
enabled to tell at once which and he haa
been lucky enough to secure.

Tucked Away in the Recesses of the
Police Patrol Box.
A valuable addition to the
ment of the police patrol box, such as
one sees along the streets of the larger
cities, has been made by a member of
the Boston Fire department
Thla improvement consists of a pair
of handcuffs, which are tucked away In
the recesses of the box.
There are many times when a police
man la hampered by having to retain
hold of hia prisoner after leading him
to the patrol box and while the wagon
la coming; to the scene. With the hand
cuffs ao convenient It will be possible
for the officer to chain up hla prisoner
and go alter anotner n necessary.

wniia tnareceiDia 01 noii were nam
ly more liberal than a week ago, tha tone
of the market in the local yards waa
much Improved. Packers were forced
to coma Into tha local market whether
they liked it or not, lor it was a risky
business to bring In. supplies and the
loss of a few hundred head soon takes
away a large per cent of the profits. It
was for this reason that tha hog tone
reflected ao much Improvement during
tha week Juat ended and caused an ad
vance of 25c in tha price. Thla aent
the top value up to 14.75 and even at
the higher figure tha market Is In a
fine position. Receipts for tha week
totaled 621 head as against 130 head a
week ago, 113 head a year ago and a
nominal number for this week two years
ago. For the month of July the run
of hogs In the local yards reached 1,
523 head against 2,268 head In June
and 1,103 head In July. It0. A year
ago at this time tha hog market began
to lmnrove in price an account of small
arrivals and the forcing of packers Into
the yards.
Cattle Bun Zs Small.
Hot weather affected tha aale of
dressed meata during tha past week and
for that reaaon there was not ao much
demand for cattle In the yards. The
receipts were not ao liberal as a week
ago, but were still considerably mora
than a year (ago for the aame period.
There was no change in values for tha
week, but packers were not ao anxloua
to buy. The top remalna as $3.76. CaV
tie run for the week totaled 770 head
against 1.147 head a week ago, 405 bead
a year asro and 684 head two years ago.
For the month of July the cattle run
in the yards was ,si neaa against 7.
412 head In June and 4,025 for tha
month of July, a year ago. A year ago
at this time there was a siignt improve
ment in cattle demand, but tha price
remained atationary.
Sheep Gain and 3oaa Again.
During the paat week the ahaep mar
ket gained 25c and then loat it again
because killers refused to pay tha ad
vance and arrivals were Juat liberal
enough to force shippers to accept their
figures. The run of sheep during the
alx days amounted to 1,617 head against
1.8Z5 head a week ago, 1,408 head
year ago and 1,826 head for thla week
two years ago. For the month of July
Juat 11,106 head of sheep came into the
local yards, mis compares wun .u
head in June and 7,441 head during the
month of July, 1906. On thia date a
year ago the sheep market waa firm but
unchanged in value.

SCIENCE NOTES
Concrete telegraph poles are coming
Into very general use In aectlons where
those of wood are not ao readily accessi
ble, and In some locations they are very
economical. A metal framework is built
up and the concrete formed around it,
the pole being octagonal and slightly ta
pering. At the top mortises are provided
for the crossarms, which are secured by
metal bolts. There are also mortises
for the use of the linemen in climbing.
Wireless telephony has been Installed
experimentally on some of the North
Kiver ferryboats, and has been found to
be of great value in directing the move
ments of the craft in fog and other
emergencies. During a recent lecture
wireless telephone messages were ex
changed between a school in Charlotten
burg and a station in Berlin.
As an Indication of the Increase In
weight and capacity of tha railroad roll
ing stock the following figures gleaned
from the reports of the Southern Paciflo
company are of interest In 80 years
the standard locomotive has increased
in weight from 30,000 to 208,000 poundf.
and the tractive power of the engines
from 11,600 to 43,805 pounds. Twenty
years ago the weight of the standard
freight car was 22,000 pounds, while
today it is 42,000 pounds, and in the
same time the capacity of the car has
Increased from 80,000 to 100,000 pounds.
In 25 years the passenger coaches have
Increased in length by 28 feet and 2
feet in width. Their seating capacity
has Jumped from 33 to 7. .

I cannot too forcibly impress tha fact that tha
METHOD8 BT WHICH I TREAT AND CURB
MEN'S DISEASE8 ARE ORIGINAL WITH MB.
They are a result of my observation, research

This should especially appeal to THOSE WHO

Weakness
MT SUCCESS In curing those func

present a variety of symptoms so
entirely confusing and perplexing
that MOST PHYSICIANS have fal

my treatment a cure la POSITIVE

Specific Blood Poison
I know this leprous disease com

cleansed and every poisonous taint
removed. The last symptom van
ishes to appear no more, and all la
accomplished by the use of harm

not submit to the dangerous mineral

treatment merely obscures the
symptoms.
