This company has taken over the business of the old exchange, but Is doing business on a different plan, according to the statement of the manager. It la now a commission brokerage business, where men sell what they want In open market without manipulation or favor. - ihe Portland stock exchanre haa had a varied experience since Its organisa tion a year and more ago. Several times it haa been on the verge of collapse, but eaoh time haa rallied for a little longer. Of late it has been reported that Its main object waa the aaie of etock In the Home Telephone company, but thla haa been denied by the manage ment of the company. Dr. Bier, professor of surgery at Berlin university, where he succeeded Professor Bergman, has published a remarkable article In the Deutsche Medlxlnlsche Wochenscnnn regarding his experiments with cancer patients in Berlin hospitals. He found that injections of the blood of animals cleared of fibrous matter, especially swine's blood, into cancerous sores, alter their apparent complexion, char acter and direction, the Improvement Indeed, sensibly approaching the heal ing point. He admits that the results do not appear quite favorable under the microscope, but be believes the treat ment to be good.
