" There is on woman In Portland who
recognises the right of ' smokers on
streetcars and yesterday morning gave
a fin example of what a woman can
do to make a man happy without ap
pealing -to -nia atomacn.
It all happened as a Willamette
Heights car swunr around th curve at
Twenty-third and Washington streets
coming downtown. She was seated in
one of th seats reserved for smokers.
Every other aeat In the -car was filled
with th excention of on In the front
end. A young man boarded th car at
this point H was smoking a cigar
ette. He glanced anxiously around, then
walked to th rear of th car and stood

As soon as th woman noticed his
plight she stood up and moved to th
front seat, motioning th young man
to th seat she vacated. The young
man looked bewildered, other smokers
opened their eyes in amasement, ana
each and every one removed his hat.

of the stockholders except Hlrsch and
Adams, caused - th 498 shares to be
Issued to himself, and thereby secured
the fraudulent control of the corpora
tion.' Instead of paying cash for the
498 shares. It Is alleged. Diamond Paid
for them by his unsecured notes to the
corporation, and then. In collusion with
Hlrsch and Adams, caused large sums
to he credited on the books as payments
on th notes. - (

personal. use and not for th benefit of
