Effectively Decorated Automobile, Entered by Harttman ft Thompson.
To pick out individual, excellence in
decoration would be a hard task. It
proved a difficult venture for the com
mittees of Judges which labored long
and conscientiously to make the awards.
AH bad mors than passing merit.
The Elks' float, which received the
first prise in theaward yesterday, was
a beautiful conception; compiled by the
united effort and thought of J. Allen
Davis and John F. Cordray. chairman of
the committee appointed by the Port
land lodge. It was doaervlng of the
prize, but at the same time long effort
was necessary on the part of the Judges
to select it from the other entries.
Another specially beautiful effort was
the work of the Ellers piano house in
its window decoration, where a grand
piano was represented in a bank of red

One of the most attractive fiesta win
dow displays in the city, and tne which
drew many commendations Is that of '
Tull Gibba. - Two of the 'great show
windows represent, respectively, a bed -room
and a dining room, attractive
with, fine furniture and beautiful cut
glass bowls' of roses, but the large dou
ble windows attracted most attention. '
Here a mommoth . horn , of plenty 1
pours out bushels of perfect 31stout
roses upon a mossy green carpet, while
artlstlo draperies in curtains and tap
estries, as well as carpets are shown,
all in rose colors or rose patterns, and .
all combined with such Judgment and
taste that the effect is most striking
and pleasing. ' Baskets, brass bowls and
Jardinieres of rare roses are placed
tmonc the draperies. The ensemble is
remarkably fine. , ,
" Another display which was the subject
of much favorable comment Is that-of
Clarke Bros, florists, on Morrison
street.; Here a fine effect was obtained '
from the use of asparagus ferns in
hanging baskets covered with the deli
cate Porto Rico , -matting In pink.
Streamers of chiffou , hung from these
and were caught up to the flowery bor- '
ders of the windows. Each window was
outlined with Testout roses and pink
and white sweet peas with smtlax and
ferns, and all the flowers were in water
and so kept fresh and fragrant. This
was thought by many to be the finest '
and most sartlstlo piece of decoration -in
the city".. . .
The scenlo background was employed
by a few window dressers. The East- ;
era Outfitting company used a back
ground of painted snow peaks and Ben,
Selling had an elaborate stage setting. r
