It was announced this morning that
the large Russian steamer , Finn , will
come here soon with a part eargo of, ce
ment from London. The freighter, ar
rived at San Diego a few days ago, to
put off a portion of tha building ma
terial. The Finn . come consigned to
Kerr, Glfford A Company, but la said
to be under charter to load lumber on
Paget Sound for the Orient. Posalbly
aha. will receive her cargo here.
The Finn will be the second Russian
steamer to come here this year, the Sel
nga having been dispatched from this
port a few weeks ago with a cargo of
wheat and flour In the Frank Water
houae line. The Belongs, differs much
from the Finn in that she belonged to
one of the Black Sea. porta, whereas the
f inn oeiongs to me otiuc mercmni
marina. She Is In command, of Captain
Qison.
It was also announced that the
French ahlo St - Luols has left New
castle, Australia, for thla port with a
cargo of coal. She la the ninth coal
ship to be announced this season, al
though It ia aald on what la considered
good authority that fullv a!ghten coal
cargoes will be brought here from Aus
tralia this season. Even with this large
quantity of coal coming out It la feared
that the fuel problem will be difficult
to solve. -
The steam schooners Svea and Cas
cade left San Francisco this morning
for Portland, both under charter to load
lumber for return cargoes. The Svea
Is only an occasional visitor, whereas
the Cascade comes here frequently. The
steam schooner Nome City returned to
the Columbia river mis morning to load
lumber for one of the California porta

1861 he came to Oregon, and ttled In

teered In an Oregon regiment that took
part in the Yakima Indian war. He
had not miased a reunion of the Indian
war veterans In the past 20 . years and
he and his wife . took great delight In -these
gathering.- Until about six ,
year ago he lived on a farm eight
mil southwest of McMlnnville. H
