' Funds for this much-desired work ave been set aside by the .government and It was decided some time ago to have the channel made navigable from the upper Columbia to Lewlston and now the work Is to be taken up In ear nest The barges are to be completed In 90 days. They will be built at Rl parla, whither Mr. Supple will send big gang of ship carpenters. The stern wheel .river steamer will also be- built there.-' ' A great deal of work Is being done In the several shipyards about the city. On the ways at Supple's yard are the new steamer J. N. Teal being built for the Open River Transportation asso ciation, b number of bargee) for the Swift Packing company ' and the tug Lottie of the Tongue Point - Lumber company. The Lottie will be launched tomorrow, and Saturday afternoon the steamer J. N. Teal will make her Initial plunge Into the Willamette. The new . steamer Weown will be launched this afternoon at the St Johns shipyard. The vessel has been constructed under the personal super vision -or captain smith and contains the boiler and engine of the old steamer Regulator, which was burned at that place January 94, 1908. She will ba used for towing. At the yard of the Portland Ship building company In South Portland the steamer Bailey Gatxert of the D.
