There appears to be considerable com

scheme whereby the patrons get beaten
is by the various delays that the drlv
era create, not for any necessary reason
but aolely for the purpose of lengthen
ing; out the time In order to Increase
the price of their Arip. Some of the
chauffeurs. It Is said, always find some
thing wrong with their cars as soon
as they secure their load and get un

delay of half an hour while he changed
some device on hi machine that was
no more necessary than If the machine
needed a dose of paragorlc. Another
driver, as soon as he receives his pas

where he wastes IS or 10 minutes in
needless delay. The kick comes when
patrons have to pay for the entire time
that the car is out and then pay a
good stiff price at Tthat. 'The local

excepting by calling em some respon
