If tha movement BUtrted In thla city laat Mod day by. the executive committee of the Crook County Cattlemen's anaoclation comes lo a aucceaaful termination, ail thd local cattle aaaoclations and repre- senUtive cattle growers in Oreton will be united before the cloae or the year in b a tale organisation which will have for its object the betterment of a rarure and stock conditions genera Liy through the power to be wielded in legislative halls 'had by Its representation In the Katlonal Livestock association. . The preliminary step .taken thla week is ths outa-rowth of a proposition ad vanced by the Crook County Cattlemen's association by Its secretary. A. L. AViBle. who re presented the) local organUatloij at the annual meetlnr of the National Uveatock ariaoclauon. which was held in Denver during the second week In Jan uary. Mr. Wlgle at that time was brought lh contact with 'he various representatives of the cattle interests from states la which organisation ana srstematlo procedure had been thor oughly .petfected, and ha found in con aequenoe -while acting simply as a dele gate from a semi-organised local body that both he and hla aasociates xrom ais- tricts in "which similar conditions . ex 1st had but little votes In the proceed lngs.' Bteasurea which would have been of great benefit to the whole stock re gion of eastern Oregon were given but little attention, and matters of the' ut most importance to both the cattle and sheep Interests in this section were ruin laaalv shelved. ... Hla retur here was taken as a oau for a meeting of the . Crook County Cattlemen's association, and . hla - Ideas regarding a state organisation were then laid before that body. Thla wees, act lug upon the opinions -rendered, at the previous meeting of the association, the executive committee, which numbers smonar its members some of the wealth lost-cattle owners in the state, too, tne first stem toward uniting In an organ Ised body all of tha cattle interests of tha stste, ' ! The following letter hes been dis patched to all of the ounty organisa tions known to exist, and similar letters have been directed to such' Influential men aa it la believed will take an active part en-rrngtagrtho proposed orgnjtlaavj tloti onto- -working basis: - Dear Sir: At a meeting neia cently In this city by the executive com mittee' of the Crook County Cattlemen's association, steps were taken towards the perfecting of a state organisation which shall embody aU the local cattle associations and representative cattle growers, not members of any such or ganisation, to the state of Oregon, But wa think that thuv larger organisation should be aomposed so fsr as practicable of county Organisations, in. counties where cattle associations do not exist we org that they be formed at once In order to bring thla greater body to a spendy and successful culmination. . -This move haa- been Inaugurated because-It la felt that only through the power wielded by a state organisation along' the lines advanced by the exec utive committee of the Crook -County CatUemen's association will It be possi ble in the future to exert any consider able and appreciable Influence either In legislative halls or In the National Live stock association. The need of such aa organisation, through, which the needs of Oregon's oat tie Interests could be voload was most strongly felt at the annual convention of the latter body held in Denver the first of the present year. "It IB the Intention of the Crook County Cattlemen's association, there fore, to form into a solid unit all the cattle interests, in this state, but the nrallmlnarv steDS which have already been taken must first bo broached to tha cattle owners generally for the purpose of securing unbiased and advantageous opinions, it the answers sent to mis assoclstlon ia response to these letters nrova to be favorable, then arrange- menu will be made for a meeting of the representatives from the different sections of the, state to be held In Prlne vlUe during the lummtror fall, at which time a permanent organisation will be .effected, We should like' to have you talk this matter freely before all cattle growers In your vicinity and then write ua as soon ss possible the concensus of opinion nrevailing. whether adverse or other wise, and any suggestions relative to the scope of tha work which comes to mind. . Tt Is oronosed to carry this matter through to an early success with the end In view of gaining for Oregon cattlemen and their Interests a position of power proportionate to the magni tude, of the industry in which they are engsged and the vast wealth which they represent. Bath these should 'be more fullv recos-nlsed in the future than they have been In the past. An Immediate reply will be of resultant benefit not alone to yon, but to that vast brother hood of cattle owners which In Itself forms one of the state's greatest -and most sustaining Industries. "H.
