DYNAMITE FACTORY FOR SPOKANE FALLS r (Special Dispatch to The Journal.) Spokane, Wash., Dec. 8. The first dynamite ever made In this vicinity was tested Just outside the city limits the present weak by officers of the WaBh lngton Powder company. Thla company was recently formed to manufacture dynamite, using a peculiar deposit of silicate of aluminum found in Stevens county ss a base. The property Is three miles west of Blue Creek station, and Is estimated to contain about 1.000.000 tons of the silicate of- aluminum. The company also owns power sites on Wright's creek, not far from the deposit, and the powder mills will be erected there at onoe. Manaser J. B. Tuttle, Jr.. Of this city, said: "The first lot of powder was a small ample of 10 pounds, which proved In every particular all we believed this proposition to possess. The deposit analyses 88 per cent silica and 20 per '-cent aluntna. We have demonstrated that we can manufacture for about 8 eenta per pound a better dynamite than Is now selling at from IS to 18 cents per pound." The company will put In an electric light plant and will put In a telephone from the mine to KetUe river. The success of the present mill has been beyond expectations. It was designed by c. M Faasett of this city, the presi dent of the company, and has been .crushing ore for five months without accident. During the past five months f 12.000 ha s been produced in bullion. Mr. Strong took exception to the proposed sale of stock to Mr. Stem at par, on the ground that par was much below the market value. BORING FOR WATER AT EMMA MINE, BAKER CO. (Special Dlapatch to Tb Journal.) Baker City. Or.. Dec. 8. Manager W. U Vinson of the Emma mine, has closed a contract with C. A. Fredericks to bore a well at the mine. Mr. Fredericks has the contract for sinking a deep well at the hot springs near Baker, and hak brought here for thla work the largest boring apparatus ever used in eastern Oregon. The contract st the Hrnma mine cells for a well from 200 to 1.000 feet, according to the depth at which a sufficient flow of water Is found. Pumps have been ordered to raise the water for domestic and milling purposes when It Is found. A force is grading for the boring machine, which will be operating soon.
