The ground Is 30 feet wide and 100 feet long. Next to the Blasiei property brick masons are busily engaged In laying the foundation for the new two-atory build ing for 8. Morton Cohn which win house nis new -vauaeviue ineatre. rne duiiq tng will be unlquo la construction. One .of the queer things in regard, to tneee two pieces ox property is that both of them will be occupied by theatres. Fred T. Merrill Is now negotiating for the use of the lower, floor of the Blaster building and if ha la successful - mon ster 10-cent continuous vaudeville theatre will be operated. ' The queer part of the situation Is that Mr. Merrill haa repeatedly said that the only reason Mr. Cohn purchased the Sixth street property where his cycleny was located was to keep him from operating an op position threatre. Now if Mr. Merrill is successful In obtaining a lease on . the . Blaster property ha will be next door to hla old enemy and per haps there will be something doing on Washington street . Joha B. Blaster Will Build. John E. Blaster has started ' tha ex cavation work on his new theatre on Fifteenth and Washington -streets. It will cost 996,000 and will be constructed of wood. The Institution will be used as an Independent theatre and will play all ox the Independent stars. The work of transforming an old bil liard parlor Into a first-class vaudeville theatre Is rapidly going forward on BIXtHTitreoretwew Alder and Wash; ington streets. The place will be known as the Bijou. Fred T. Merrill has begun the ex cavation work on hla new automobile BITS Of MINING NEWS sSaTaTaYaTeT tWsl9aTaf9alaTa During the month of March the tun nel n the Vesuvius was driven ahead a distance of 98 feet making a total dis tance from the mouth to the breast something more than 300 feet Tha vein on which the tunnel is being driven has been continuous and haa carried a good grace or ore tna entire distance. . Borne- times tne ore nody would not be so large, but. the greater portion of the distance has been several feet; all of the ore Doing or a- good grade, sometimes showing free gold. This tunnel Is gain ing depth, and when continued to a point under the upper workings. It will be something like 1,100 feet below them and a total depth from the highest point of the apex of the vein of sorrfe 1,500 feet By continuing this tunnel to this objective point crosscut or lat eral tunnels will be driven either way and tap several strong parallel ledges which have been-discovered at or near the surface; thus making tt possible; to 8 tope the ores of all these veins and tram them direct to the mill sits below. The company thinks l . has one of ...the greatest properties in tne district, and has all the natural, conditions for eco nomical JRntf 1 profitable working.! with this tunnel together with the large ore bodies already opened abovs. AU that is now needed is a mill of sufficient capacity to treat the ores.. - ,1 Manager Kelly has doubled the crush ing capacity of hla I. The nominal capacity of a single steam stamp of this type Is four to five - tons, according to the hardness of the ore. - I. X. IV ore Is quite hard. and. tha maximum duty there does not exceed four tons. No concen trators are used, as sulphides have not made their presence felt with sufficient strength to Interfere, with good cyanide results. De velopment proceeds along general lines of exploring the 900 level. After prov ing that there was an almost continuous ore body on this level of approximately 800 feet length in. the vein, drifts are being run on a croea vein between the I. X L. and the Hidden Treasure, and when this has been explored drifts will be extended to the - Hidden Treasure. Tha last report mads was that -the. face efthis cross vein 'drift had 334 ore on the average across the breast exposed. It Is apparent from this that the values of ore at the X X.
