Portland people endorse this claim:
Mrs. Painter, wife of J. W. Painter,

quite at young girr I had a severe spell

bothered me, and I have suffered at
times terribly,- I could no mora lie on
my left side than I could fly, and could
not stoop to pick anything off the floor
without working myself up gradually
by placing my hands on my hlpa In
addition to this, there were headaches,
dlsslness and trouble with the kidney
secretions, for all of which I doctored
and used more than one remedy said to
be a sure cure for such annoyances.
Nothing brought me relief compared

It Is probable that the Santa Fe will
soon establish an office In. Portland and
will not only handle Its local business
from this office, but will follow the plan
adopted by the Rook Island and North
western roads and make this city the
headquarters for the Paclflo northwest
territory.
L. B. Smith, traveling passenger agent
of the Santa Fe, with headquarters in
Denver, was In the olty Tuesday look
ing over the situation.
"I understand that the head officials
of the road have under consideration the
establishment of, a Portland office which
will probably be the headquarters for
the northwest business. Even now
secure soms traffic from this field, but
If we had an -agency here and went ac
tively Into the field we would secure
much more. Our system is now Into
Ban Francisco and well prepared to han
die eastbound passenger business and
secure the long haul. The line to the
north from San Francisco has also been
purchased, I understand, and the gen
era! opinion since the trip of the chief
officials of the line to Eureka a few
days sgo Is that the line will build to
Eureka."
The Santa Fe Is rapidly completing
plans for an extension Into the southern
California territory by means of motor
systems. Electric car lines have been
projected from Ban Francisco to the
central California country and some of
these will probably be built this season.
The Banta Fe recently Instituted a new
ferry system across the bay at t San
Francisco and has been out ting Into the
Southern Pacific traffic. Besides the
road has, gained control of the street
car system In Oakland and Is working
Into ths lnter-urban field, using car
lines to serve as feeders for the rail
lines.
