D. B. Shelter , of Washington, toreat superintendent, was here yesterday for, the purpose of appointing a supervisor to take charge or me Baiter city water-snea reserve, wnicn was set aside by proclamation TPfthrilt-V 11 f9nl tn Miarva this rmritv of the source of Baker's water supply. Mr. Bheller solicited an application for the position from V. R.-Mead of thU vtiy,' oui jnasmucn as "ii omu, ojuj pays $75 per month, ana the man lit charge has to pay his own expenses, Mr. Mead declined to tile an application fo the place. The reserve in question em braces 60,300 acres', and it would prob- nuijr ounnumo ma cniiio win vi una man to keep it clear of stock. ' -. Some time ago an c application was made by the city council of Sumpter . for a reserve to be set aside northeast of here and covering the head waters of Pole and Wind oreeks, which furnish the city's water supply, and which be comes exceedingly foul durlnsr the sum mer months en aocount of the stock being; allowed to graze there. The re serve asked for takes in about (0,000 acres, but no action has yet been takon by the government. Mr. Shelter's at tention was called to this application while here, and ha agreed to take the matter up "with City Attorney Richards In Baker, Where he went yesterday on business. - The fact that the Baker reserve will ho longer be available to Stock Will have a tendency to drive sheep and cattle over to the Sumpter water Shed and pollute the waters more than ever before. This was Impressed upon Mr. Bheller, and he promised to take the matter up at once and do all in his power toward the attainment of the re serve. - 1 Gasoline Hoist Being Installed. J.
