a new edifice built The old building at
the corner of Eleventh anu Willamette
streets is now too small for the steadily
, growing congregation. At a meeting
held yesterday, A. Houck. M. Schneider,
Louis Aya and Peter'.Boler were named
as a committee to arrange for the mat
ter of raising the necessary funds with

Salem, Jan. 21. President Patton and
some ,: of 'the members of , the Salem
Young Men's (Republican club went to
Pratum, 10 miles east of Salem, last
night and helped to organise the How
ell Young Men' Republican club, th
nrst or the organisations started
through the effort of the extension
committee of the Salem organisation.
A large crowd of the young men of that
section was present, and an enthusias
tic meeting was held. ;
Officers were elected bv the club
a follows: Charles E. Short ylce-prea-
mem, jonn N. Miller, secretary and
treasurer. The meeting adjourned td
the first .Wednesday evening in Febru
ary, when a president and five members
of -the executive committee will - be

The club adopted a constitution slml-
ar to that of the Salem club, and will
hold regular meeting twice each month
from now until after the close kof the

A Slight Snowfall
There was a light fall of now in this
vicinity on Tuesday and Wednesday,
but by Wednesday evening it had al
most entirely disappeared. The La
Creole river has been swollen by melt
ing snow In the mountains on the west
and is quite high, although not yet dan
gerous. The rural mail carrier tun
ning out from Dallas say the road are
the worst In years and in some place
are almost impassable.

continuing, ln Southern Oregon. While
In the lower valleys the snow lias
melted as It fell. In th higher moun
tain It has been piling up until It has
reached a depth of several feet. This
will make a reserve water supply on
which the placer mines of this district
may draw for many weeks to come.
Prior to this storm the water supply
for the placer was rusnlng short, and
in some cases the mines had been com
pelled partially to suspend operations.
