. A "meeting had been arranged to be
held last night by the two remaining
members of the sailor' boardlnghouse
commission, : but owing to other busi
ness which demanded his attention Mr.
Mears could not attend. Hence the only
resignation which has been tenderedjs
that of E. W. Wright, president .of the
board JTesterdayi at Salem the state
board of Control for the licensing of
sailor boardlnghouses met' and acted
upon Mr. Wright's resignation. It was
accepted and ordered placed on file.
Whether It Is the Intention of Messrs.
Mears and Holman, the remaining mem
bers of the commission, to : resign or
not they declined to state positively.
Had the conference been held laRt night
the matter would have been fully dis
cussed and some decisive action prob
ably taken. There was also business of
a routine nature which would bare re
ceived attention before further resigna
tions would have been tendered. Printed
stationery and several small Hems like
that had been ordered by the board, and
provisions would have been made for
straightening up "any small accounts
which might have been outstanding be
fore reaching a decision to vacate the
several offices. Mr. Holman 'this morn
ing said: - . , ,
"We will meet Very shortly, but I
am unable to say what action we will
take. That' matter will be decided at
the meeting. Of course, as 'the law
stands we can revoke licenses, but. we
are also compelled to grant them. , In
the event that Sullivan's license should
be revoked what is there to prevent
others who are interested in business
with . him from securing a license?" .
