U. -The fifth annual angora goat show and sale for the state of Oregon, which is to be held In this city on Thursday and Friday of this week, promises to be a big affair, ' Blooded goats will be entered from , every part of the state. iThe show Is bold under the auspices of the - Polk County Mohair association and Is grow Ing larger and better. each year. Diplomas will be given to all prise- winners, and no entrance fees will be - charged, while feed is furnished to the , Block free of charge. The show will - open on the morning of 'the 14th and will be open to visitors on that evening nd during the next day. The .Dallas college executive commit tee has made : arrangements whereby that institution has acquired the old de serted woolen mills building near the college campus , and will convert the me into an up-to-date gymnasium. Baths will be put In. together with all other gymnasium faeUitiesr-On the main floor the basket ball court will be lo cated and will be made the regulation else. Carpenters are now at work on the building remodeling It. and it will bo In shape next Friday evening for the basket ball game between Dallas college team and a. team from the O. N. Q. team of Albany.. The All-Stars from Port land are to play here in the near future, as well as the U. of O. basket ball team, and efforts are also being made to bring the Seattle team here sometime In Feb ruary. : .' This course i)f Jecturea has bealye Ing the past three years and have al ways been well attended and very suc cessful. -, ' , The Dallas Juvenile band will give a dance at the opera house Saturday evening for the purpose of raising money to defray expenses and to buy uniforms, music, etc. The boys have been practicing only a short time arid are making rapid progress. Notwithstanding the rainy weather during the past Jew days, the gang of men who are putting in the water works system have been steadily' at work, laying pipe and digging ditches. The most of-this kind of work will be finished before spring. : SALEM SOCIALISTS MEET TO DISCUSS v " (Journal Special Service.) Salem. Jan. 11. The Salem Socialist club yesterday afternoon met for the discussion of the question, "Resolved, that the Republican party Is the friend of the laboring man." The discussion was participated In by a large number of the members of the club, and at the conclusion of the debate, honors were about even. It would not be surprising to see the Socialists of Marlon county swallowed up by the Q. p. P for the saucy Jade has been long courted and as far back as the opening of the 102 campaign saw Socialists In some of the precincts led up to the polls In the Re publican primaries and voted en masse. In one precinct It is reported that one wily leader delivered 43 Socialistic votes to a Republican candidate, and his fail ore to secure the coveted nomination cer tainly was not the fault of his Socialistic supporters.
