The principal Items of interest In the market odajr cw ' Eggs considerably weaker. J t Creamery: butter, weaker.-. . T" Poultry receipts larger. - , Wild game again in. , . Heps selling fast. ' Errs Are Weaker. The local egg 'market shows consider able weakness , today on account of the larger receipts and the smaller demand Kt former prices. . Today the price went down and the highest figure now ruling is 3"V4 cents s.nd it is much doubted at this time whether the . market will go uny higher In the nears future The rea- .- son for the reaction in the egg market - Is because the price has been strained beyond reason for the fresh stocks and when the figures get beyond a certain limit the 'consumption drops off and this causes stocks to accumulate and lower prices Invariably follow. It- is- not thought that there will be any consider able disturbance in the egg market for some time, but it would be just as well for the farmer, to ship his goods into ... market as soon as they are ready," This will savs the ifiarket from Uelng glut tad at any particular time nd help also to keep the prices from going down too much at a time. Accumulations of eggs and their subsequent shipment into the market at one time will have but one effect that of causing the market to slump.. Creamery Batter Is Weaker. It is .apparent to ' everyone on . the street that-the butter -market is not in v the very best of condition,- the receipts tains considerably'- larger than they were for some time and the demand is rather off for the moment It is' almost certain that the price of creamery but ter will go still lower should the j res- ent weather conditions' exist for some " time, v Already the dealers report that they are filled to overflowing with local product. Some of them are selling the lest creamery at 67 H ' cnts per two pound roll, while a majority of them are still stktng 60 cents or 30 cents a pound for that grade. Store and dairy butter is coming ji very fast at this moment . and the market is considerably weaker. ,, No changes .occur in. the quotations of these two grades today. larger Poultry Receipts. . . . The receipts of poultry . within the - past few days have shown a wonderful increase and. , now there is plenty of stocks to supply the demand at ruling quotations. The majority of the; re ceipts now In are of mixed variety and straight hens are just as scarce as they ever were. -No changes In quotations to day. . Xalns Bring Ducks. , The coming of the rains has brought In a large supply of wild ducks from- up the valley and this fact somewhat inter feres with the ordinary poultry. The market has been quite, bars of fresh wild v game for some time and the receipts of today were moved at fair prices.-- ,., s v. ' Good Hop Movement. . According to ,-varlous' local hop men there are now remaining in the state of . this year's crop about, 15,000 bales and the outward movement continues just 'as "active as it was during 'the previous week. The., extra fancies are -UU being held at 25 cents, while 23 and 14 cents is being offered and accepted ' for the choice grades, , The movement of primes is very large at this time, but there seems to be but little call for the ... very .cheap grades.; ' f y; : , ,; j :V' --Wheat la Ttry Weak." The local wKeatjjnarket' shows con- general lowering of quotations, all-over . the world In the East there has "been , a general reaction in the prices on wheat and" the same is true of the foreign countries. The" demand for flour- from the Orient is nominal and the .dealers have come to the conclusion that they are filled up. This is especially true of Japan, which country' bought a very f large supply for war purposes. "The j price of flour in the Orient is not the question now," says a local flour man, "for the reason that there is absolutely no demand. If we shaved our flour prices 5 cents a barrel I don't think that it would make a particle of difference in the . demand, from those countries." . The lo cal flour "market continues about the same with quotations and demand about normal. Oranges Will Be Cheaper. According to all present' indications the price of oranges this year will be much cheaper than those that' ruled a year ago. - The larger-sized crop will be - the principal cause. '- According to the estimates of prominent California orange men that state will produce- about 87, 000 carloads of oranges this season. The yield .last . year was about 0,000 car loads. . :,''..-...,.-' ' ,. jf. , Opinions on the Markets. W. B. COTTON LAPSES INTO A TRADERS' MARKET (Furnlsbed byOterbeck, Btarr Cooks Co.) New York. Dec. 14. Mclntyre Marshall say: . The epeculatlon In cotton has relapsed into s traders' market for small quick turns pending oVreloproeiits which will give the trade more definite information In regard to the actual slue of the crop. We think S scalper position in operating will prove more profitable for the balance of this year at least than to tdke a fixed position. A we approach, the holiday apcculatlon Is likely to become pro fessional and we therefore do not expect to ae any great activity or austained violent fluctua tion. On any advance to 1214c or 124e for March or May, we think cotton should be sold and w would only favor rebuylng on pro nounced weak spots. The cotton market today closed as follow; Onen. , High. ;.. The wheat market was rather irregu lar throughout the tiny on a small vol ume of business which was -only local. Argentine weather1 is reported on the whole favorable. No large operations for Armour on either side was noticea ble. 'It Is still a hesitating market and exhibits nothing fovorable for more than scalping operations. ' The foreign mar kets are still dull with no great activ ity. -. ; Com Closs Bsttsr. . Corn closed av little better. Consid erable effort was made by the pit traders early to Inaugurate' a decline. This has been repeatedly tried of late., but the market develops no persistent selling pressure and prices easily react from the depression, The undertone seems .on the whole fairly steady. The cash situation Is slow but arrivals are very moderate and com from a small radius. . Prices at intermediate points seem relatively better than here. So long as this con tinues we would buy on the breaks for moderate profits. , . Oats Without Oaaagsv . Oats are without material ' change. Conditions are much the same as In re spect to corn prices react easlly .from any depression. Receipts are small and while the demand is not urgent, the cash situation Is healthy. Speculative oper ations are on a large scale as regards outside trading. . ' . Provisions Close Steady. The provision "market was a little weak but closed about unchanged. There seemed to be fairly good buying at the decline and the close was steady, : After so sharp a rally there was nothing large in the way of current operations. ,Pr6- vlsions ought easily- to have a reaction but we are inclined, to think we would buy them on the soft spots.
